Rita Mary Sudbeck
BOW VALLEY — Rita Mary Sudbeck, 93, Bow Valley, died Feb. 16, 2019, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Visitation and a Vigil service were Tuesday, at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley, and continued Wednesday morning, at church, one hour prior to services.
Mass of Christian Burial was Feb. 20 at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating.
Pallbearers were Tim Goeden, Don Schulte, Bob Sudbeck, Dale Jansen, Melvin Jansen, and Mike Rolfes.
Honorary pallbearers were the Rosary Club and Rita’s Prayer Friends.
Burial was at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Rita Mary was born June 14, 1925, in Menominee, to John and Maxalinda (Suing) Jansen. She grew up in the Menominee area and went to District 56 Country School and St. Boniface, Menominee. Rita married Marvin J. Sudbeck Aug. 27, 1947, in Menominee. They farmed just west of Bow Valley for 40 years. Rita and Marvin raised 13 children, Lois, Marty, Dona, Bill, Vicky, Kay, Rowland, Rhea, Dwight, Tom, Marlow, Geralyn and John. Rita worked at the Golden Living Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide for many years, then for M-Tron Industries, Yankton, for nearly 20 years. Rita also worked for Avera Home Health Services and for the Nebraska Home for the Aging.
Rita was a loving mother and grandmother, great cook and gardener, and loyal friend. She made time for everyone. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and then Holy Family. She was a member of The Chrismatic Prayer Group, Christian Mothers, Contemplative Prayer Groups, the Rosary Club, Bible Study Group, and held several hours of adoration at Holy Family Church. Rita loved the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary daily. She also was involved with the ARC from Bloomfield and actively advocated for children with disabilities legislation. Rita was also a member of Alanon for over 30 years.
Rita is survived by her 10 children and spouses, Marty (Deb) Sudbeck, Bow Valley; Dona (Gary) Clune, Lakefort, Texas; Bill Sudbeck, Bow Valley; Vicky (Maurice) Koch, St. James; Kay Sudbeck, Lincoln; Rowland Sudbeck, Hartington; Rhea (Roy) Hochstein, Bennet; Dwight Sudbeck, Bloomfield; Tom (Julie) Sudbeck, Yankton, S.D.; Marlow Sudbeck, Hartington; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Warner Wong, Seattle, Wash.; brother, Clarence (Angie) Jansen, Fordyce; two sisters, Clara Rolfes, St. James, and Lorraine Schulte, Hartington; and sister-in-law, MaryAnn Jansen, Yankton, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin J., Jan. 16, 2009, at the age of 84; three children, Lois Wong, Geralyn and John Sudbeck; sisters, Angela Leise and Loretta Schulte; brothers, Leonard Jansen, Martin Jansen, George Jansen and Elmer Jansen; in-laws, Orville and Shirley Sudbeck, Joe and Mary Ann Sudbeck, Ed and Lavern Goeden; several nieces and nephews, and grandson, Jason Asmus.
