Richard L. Travers
HARTINGTON — Richard L. Travers, 65, Hartington, died Nov. 27, 2018, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Visitation was Nov. 30 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date.
Richard Lawrence Travers was born May 7, 1953, to Thomas L. and Christine (Lawrence) Travers, and grew up on a farm in Norwood, Mass., and graduated from Walpole High School. He received his associate’s degree from Northeastern University, Boston. Richard married Jo Ann Cook Sept. 15, 1995, in Weymouth, Mass. He then received a degree in drug and alcohol counseling from the University of Denver. Richard worked for the William Street Center, Denver, and worked in the Drug Court System. They moved to Orange County, Calif., to work in the Drug Court System there. Richard then worked for Rick Feilmeier for three years in California, driving a truck and moving equipment. He and Jo Ann moved to Hartington in fall 2006 where he continued to work for Rick on his farm in Hartington. Richard really enjoyed being a farm manager and took a lot of pride in his work.
Richard did some fishing and loved to drive around the countryside to check the crops, but mostly to harass his friends and neighbors.
Richard is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, Hartington; son, Richard and wife, Iliana Travers, Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren; sister, Cathy (Jim McKnight), Norton, Mass.; two brothers and spouses, Thomas (Janet) Travers, Franklin, Mass., and John (Jeanie) Travers, Franklin, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and twin brother, Robert.
