Queen Bee integral part of Honey Fest
RANDOLPH - Randolph’s first Queen Bee is looking forward to a busy-bee weekend.
The Economic Development Advisory Board selected Sandra Kuhlman for the honor at Honey Fest and Community Fair activities this coming weekend. She will be officially crowned at 4 p.m., Friday, July 7, at the city auditorium to kick off festivities.
Kuhlman has lived in Randolph all of her nearly 79 years.
“I’ve never gone anywhere else. Randolph is the place to be - that’s b-e-e,” she said with a smile.
Kuhlman was selected from nine other nominated women for contributions to Randolph.
“Sandra is always looking out for the community of Randolph,” her nomination read, listing her active involvement in St. John’s Lutheran Church as a confirmation leader, lector and evangelism committee member, and the all-class reunions held each year during the Community Fair, among other things.
Kuhlman, now retired, worked at Randolph Public Schools in the cafeteria for 33 years. She’s married to Leon and has two children, Sindee Schmit, Randolph, and Steve Breding, Chamberlain, S.D.
Kuhlman said she’s never worn a crown before and will hold her head high this weekend.
“It’s going to be a busy weekend but I’m so looking forward to it,” she said.
Fairgoers are encouraged to seek Kuhlman out as she has some special gifts to hand out during several events. She’ll also be leading the Buzzin’ Around Town Bike Roll & Stroll, helping judge the Honey Baking Contest, riding in the tractor parade, buzzing around Honey Headquarters, and giving out annual awards at the barbecue.
