One vote makes the difference in LCC election
LAUREL — One vote made all the difference Tuesday in an $18.5 million bond election to fund a school building addition and facility upgrades.
Cedar County Clerk Dave Dowling said 596 people voted in favor of the bond election, while 595 people were opposed to it.
Dowling said he expects the tight race will trigger an automatic recount.
Sixty-five percent of the eligible voters turned in ballots.
Here is a look at the voter turn-out breakdown per county.
Cedar County 67 percent
Dixon County 53 percent
Wayne County 64 percent.
The Cedar County Clerk’s office mailed out 1,841 ballots June 21 to all Cedar, Dixon and Wayne county registered voters in the District.
All ballots had to be returned to the appropriate County Clerk’s office either by mail or in person by 5 p.m., July 13, in order to be counted.
Supporters said the project was needed in order to ensure a solid future for the school district.
