Norman “Doc” Sudbeck HARTINGTON — Norman Gerald “Doc” Sudbeck, 92, Hartington, died March 23, 2024, at Arbor Care Center, Hartington.

Mass of Christian burial will be April 3, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with Rev. Owen Korte officiating.

Burial will be at the St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington. Visitation will be April 2, at church, from 5-8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning, one hour prior to services.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Pallbearers will be Skyler Sudbeck, Myles Sudbeck, Clay Backer, Chris Lammers, Ryan Boeckman, Luke Sudbeck, Cortney Becker and Molly Norgren. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Norman Gerald Sudbeck was born March 8, 1932, in Bow Valley, to Paul Hubert and Frances Mary (Thoene) Sudbeck. He attended a country school near Bow Valley and finished elementary school in Bow Valley. After school, he worked on the farm with his parents. He married Delores Erna Kathol Oct. 20, 1954, in Bow Valley. He and Delores lived with his parents for a year before buying a farm east of Wynot. Norman and Delores farmed there until 1998, when they built a house in Hartington. Norman continued to help on the farm until he was 89 years old.

Norman was a member of St. James Parish from 1955 until it closed. He was an E.M.E., church lector, a former parish council and school board member. After joining Holy Trinity Parish, Hartington, he became a Knights of Columbus member, and held an hour of adoration for many years. Norman was involved with the Ministry of Praise and the Holy Name Society. Doc had a love for baseball, where he played for many years, and also coached and managed the youth teams. He was a longtime Red Sox fan. Norman also enjoyed a good game of cards.

Norman loved his wife Delores, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His faith, family and farming were his passions to a very successful life.

Norman is survived by his wife, Delores, Hartington; nine children, Rick (Tricia) Sudbeck, Loveland Colo.; Gerald Sudbeck, Hartington; Kathy (Joe) Lammers, Hartington; Keith G. (Charlene) Sudbeck, Wynot; Sidney (Terri) Sudbeck, Hader; Karen (Mick) Boeckman, Wynot; Marcel (Deb) Sudbeck, Norfolk; Annette (Cecil) Williams, Crescent, Okla.; Nancy (Todd) Becker, Yankton, S.D.; 32 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Stratman, St. Helena; sister-in-law, Jolene Sudbeck, Hartington.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Frances Sudbeck; a brother, Allen Sudbeck; two sisters and spouses, Mildred (Norbert) Bracht and Maureen (Arthur) Kathol; brother-in-law, Kenneth Stratman; grandson, John Lammers; and great-grandchild, Spencer Lammers.
