New Neb. Forester is getting to know all about Cedar County

HARTINGTON — Jorden Smith made a big move this summer.

Smith, the new Wildland Urban Interface Forester headquartered at the Lewis and Clark NRD, in Hartington, moved from the Minneapolis metro area

That’s a move of miles, but more significantly it's going from a community of a million to a town of 1,600.

"It was an adjustment, but it is wonderful," he said, adding he enjoys the small town life. "It is easier to get around with no stoplights and the people in the area are very helpful and friendly with everyone in a small town being acquainted."

Anyone who comes from a metropolis or even a larger city needs to adjust to the way things are done here, and he will have to get his biological clock set for Hartington time our slower pace. Where our businesses are not open twenty-four hours and it does not take a half-hour or more to get from one location in town to another those things one adjusts to when they were in the big city when and were on Minneapolis time.
