New home for seasonal restaurant
RANDOLPH - Randolph’s local ice cream shop has ‘moo’ved down the block.
The Frozen Cow opened for the season Saturday at the former Randolph Senior Center building, about a block west of its former location. The business is operating out of the front half of the new space with the front door being utilized on the Broadway Street entrance, said Tara Strathman who owns the Frozen Cow with Sarah Billerbeck.
“It offered a great space for the Cow,” Strathman said of the former senior center building. “We wanted to make sure that building was going to be maintained and used in a beneficial way for the community.”
The sale of the property closed May 5.
Several upgrades - including utilities and equipment - were made to get the new space suitable and up to code in time for the season opening, as well as some cosmetic changes.
“We still have work to do to get the space where we want it to be but it will have to be a work in progress because the summer season is here,” Strathman said. “We also owe a big thank you to several people for helping us with this quick turnaround.”
The new Frozen Cow now boasts indoor seating of up to 40 while the prior space did not offer indoor seating.
Strathman and her husband, Mitch, purchased the senior center building, incorporating it under the name “The Old Building,” a moniker given to the place by their son.
The “old building” has other space not utilized by the Frozen Cow that the Strathmans may further develop.
The former Frozen Cow building has been sold and will be opening as a downtown business, Strathman said.
