Mildred “Millie” Sudbeck Bracht
WEST POINT — Mildred Bracht, 82, died May 25, at St. Joseph’s Hillside Villa, West Point.
Funeral Mass was May 28 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, West Point, with Rev. Matt Niggemeyer as celebrant.
Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Mildred “Millie” Sudbeck Bracht was born Dec. 4, 1939 in Bow Valley to Paul and Frances (Thoene) Sudbeck. She grew up on the family farm near Bow Valley, attending Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1957. Following graduation, she worked at the Cedar County Courthouse as a clerk for the judge. Millie married Norbert Bracht May 4, 1960, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Bow Valley. The couple was busy with gardening, milking and raising their family. Millie and Norbert were active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
Millie and Norbert were active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where Millie was Regent and a member of Catholic Daughters and Guild. She helped set up Mass at the nursing home from the mid-1970s, until her health no longer allowed. In addition to being local chapter president and state treasurer for the Nebraska Dairy Women, Millie volunteered at Dairy Day at the Henry Doorly Zoo, Omaha, and started the ice cream stand at the Cuming County Fair. She was president of the VFW Auxiliary, was an extension club member, and polling volunteer. She had a talent for drawing and art which led her to be president of the West Point Art Club.
Among her many accomplishments, Millie’s flowers and garden produce won Grand Champion at the Cuming County Fair.
Survivors include her daughter, Denise (Kurtis) Kelin, Overland Park, Kan.; sons, Neal (Tami), Glen, and Kurt (Angie) all of West Point; and Gary (Vicki), Chillicothe, Ill.; grandchildren, Derek (Stephanie) Bracht, Karlie Bracht, Leah Bracht, Brandi (Mike) Flyr, Reed (Ashlie) Bracht, Blake (Katie) Bracht, Bailey Keling, Emma Keling, Nathan Bracht and Maddie Bracht; siblings, Norman (Delores) Sudbeck, Maureen Kathol and Jean Stratman.
Millie is preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Mitchell Bracht; and brother, Allen.
