Marie Louise Weinandt
YANKTON, S.D — Marie Louise Weinandt, 83, Yankton, S.D., died May 11, 2019, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m., May 15, at Wintz and Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, with a rosary at 6:45 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to the funeral Mass at church.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., May 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. DCruz Nicholas officiating.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton.
Pallbearers are Nicholas Weinandt, Patrick Weinandt, Chris Lauer, Ben Weinandt, Landon Weinandt and Matt Weinandt.
Marie was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Menominee, to Joseph and Gertrude (Albrecht) Havermann. She grew up on a farm near Menominee and attended Catholic grade school. She then lived in Omaha, and was a nanny and housekeeper for several families. Marie married Leo Weinandt Sept. 27, 1955, in Menominee. She received all her sacraments, except Anointing of the Sick, from the same priest, Fr. Otto Zillig at St. Boniface Catholic Church. After their marriage, they operated a dairy farm near Turtle Lake, Wis. In 1962, they moved to Wakonda, S.D., where they continued their farming operation. Marie was also a cook at Wakonda Heritage Manor and then worked in housekeeping at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital until she retired at age 65. She spent the next 15 years cleaning homes for many families until she was 80 years old.
Marie loved to cook and you never left her house with an empty stomach. She enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds. She also enjoyed canning and sewing. Marie and Leo were volunteers at the House of Mary Shrine and helped care for the grounds. Marie loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them.
Marie is survived by four children, Jane (Donald) Berrigan. Gonzales, La.; Joyce (Chuck) Lauer, Killeen, Texas; Steve (Kara) Weinandt, Yankton, S.D.; and Myron (Jennifer) Weinandt, Battle Creek; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray Havermann, Rapid City, S.D.; David (Janine) Havermann, Arvada, Colo.; and Leander Havermann, Utica, S.D.; one sister, Anita Gentrup, Hudson, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo, Dec. 31, 2016; three grandchildren. Allissa Marie Weinandt, Michelle Theresa Lauer and Shawn Patrick Berrigan; two brothers. Edward and Norbert Havermann; and one sister, Rita Hoesing.
