Margaret L. Cisney
WAKEFIELD — Margaret L. Cisney, 97, Wakefield, died April 17, 2018, at the Wakefield Health Care Center. A gathering for friends was held April 22 at Bressler - Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home, Wakefield. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler - Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home, Wakefield. Margaret was born May 20, 1920, at Laurel, in her grandparent’s home. She was the second child of Herman Beckman and Martha (Evers) Beckman. Margaret moved with her parents and brother, John, to Coleridge, at age 7. She attended Coleridge Public Schools and graduated from Coleridge High School. Giles S. Cisney and Margaret Beckman were married July 20, 1937. They moved to Wakefield in September 1937 and Margaret lived in Wakefield from that time on, with the exception of two and one half years during World War II. She and her son, Dewain, left to live with her parents, during the war, while Giles served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific. She taught at Norris District country school, a one-room school house, located two miles east of Coleridge during that time. In 2010, three of her eighth grade students were able to attend her 90th birthday celebration and shared with her their fond memories of her being their teacher. Margaret worked for many years as the receptionist at Dr. Coe’s office. She also worked for the Wakefield School District. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and served one term as president. Margaret was known as a helpful, caring neighbor and friend, and as a willing volunteer. She did not like the spotlight and went about serving others in a quiet, selfless fashion. Margaret was a recipient of the AKSARBEN “Good Neighbor Award” in 1992. Margaret was a faithful member of the Salem Lutheran Church. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son, Jesse Cisney, Laytonville, Calif., and daughter-in-law, Sharol, Tempe, Ariz.; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dewain; daughter-in-law, Barbara; granddaughter, Sasha; and brother, John Beckman and his wife, Angie. Memorials are suggested to the Wakefield Care Center, Wakefield Senior Center, or Salem Lutheran Church, Wakefield.
