Library leaders update County
HHARTINGTON — After approving the agenda at the Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, Commissioners Craig Bartels, Dave McGregor and Terry Pinkelman got right into business.
First, they met with road superintendent Carla Schmidt. Not only did they approve a project solution for the bridge match project that was completed about a month ago with Wayne County but also proceeded with approving the road closing in precinct nine with a hearing on August 28, 2018.
Schmidt returned to the meeting to discuss engineering proposals for the flood damage from the week of July 25, 2018 in McGregor’s district. The group decided to accept the bid from Mainelli Wagner and Associates Engineering of Lincoln with the motion made by McGregor and seconded by Bartels.
They also received a visit from representatives from the Lied Randolph Public Library and the Hartington Public Library. Peggy Leiting of Randolph and Tami Andersen met to update the board on what the library has been working on this year.
At Randolph, Leiting said their biggest project has been working on digitizing the Randolph Times for history purposes. The library has also began working on STEM field projects and plan to continue with this project theme in the future. This coming year they plan on including coding in these STEM projects.
At Hartington, they announced that the art gallery that has been open since 2002 is going to be remodeled into a reading lounge with a fireplace and coffee bar paid for from the Library Foundation and Friends of the Library funds.
Although a representative from the Laurel Community Learning Center could not be in attendance at the meeting, the three libraries wanted to thank the county for their funding and hoped the county will continue to help in funding their activities.
The board agreed and informed the library representatives that the requested funds will be included in the budget again for this year.
The board also had a visit from assessor Don Hoesing in which he presented properties that were changed on the tax roll. The board approved this along with building permits from Jeff Feilmeier, Curt Hjorth, Larry Tweedy, Joe Tramp, Jeff Thies and Ryan Meyer all presented by weed superintendent and zoning administrator Dave Sudbeck.
The board will meet next on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. at the Cedar County Courthouse.
