Leonard Paul Dowling
RANDOLPH — Leonard Paul Dowling, 88, Randolph, died Aug. 28, 2018, at Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk. Visitation was Aug. 31 at Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph. Funeral services were Sept. 1 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph, with Rev. Amanda Talley, Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, officiating. Interment was in Belden Cemetery – Belden, NE Pallbearers were Joshua Dowling, Adam Dowling, Steven Schultze, Bruce Schultze, Ben Ausdemore and Jesse Vogel. Leonard was born Oct. 24, 1929, at Hartington, to Lester and Nellie (Dewhirst) Dowling. He attended Pierce County rural school near Randolph. Leonard worked as a farmhand for area farmers. He married Evelyn Kirstine Feb. 18, 1951, at Pierce Congregational Church, Pierce. The couple made their first home in Pierce. They had three children, David, Gregory and Susan. The family moved to farm south of Randolph and then on to farm near Belden for 39 years. In 2010, the Dowlings moved to Randolph. Leonard worked as a Funeral Assistant for Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph, for 10 years. Leonard was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph, and enjoyed regularly attending at Randolph Senior Center. Surviving Leonard is his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Dowling, Randolph; three children David and Denise Dowling, Hartington; Gregory and Darlene Dowling, Randolph; Susan and Jeffery Schultze, Plattsmouth; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Hewey, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Genevieve Hyatt, Norfolk; Gladys Patent, Randolph. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
