LCC band members recognized with awards
Hall of Fame
The Band Hall of Fame awards go to the top three band members of each class strictly based on the points earned towards their band letter. Freshmen: First place Paul Allison, 2nd place Christian Staples, 3rd place Faith Galvin; Sophomores: 1st place Derek Nelson; 2nd place Kolten Settje, 3rd place Craig Karnes; Juniors: 1st place Koby Detlefsen; 2nd place Sam Cross; 3rd place: Lilyan Fox; Seniors: 1st place Gabbie Kock, 2nd place Shawn Griffith American Musical Foundation Awards The American Musical Foundation Awards go to band members from each class in recognition of outstanding musical talent, dedication, and service. Awards go to Freshmen: Paul Allison; Sophomore: Kolten Settje; Junior: Koby Detlefsen; Senior: Shawn Griffith Lewis & Clark Conference Honor Band The Lewis & Clark Conference Honor Band was held at Wayne State College on Saturday, January 20th. This year’s Lewis & Clark Conference Honor Band members were: Paul Allison, Faith Galvin, Jenna Gewock, Derek Nelson, Kolten Settje, and Christian Staples in the 9 – 10 band. Members of the 11-12 band were Jayden Campbell, Koby Detlefsen, Lilyan Fox, Shawn Griffith, Gabbie Kock, and Emma Sohler. Due to the weather and the late start, there were no auditions and no chair placements resulting in no conference band medals this year.
Coyote Jazz Festival & Northeast Community College
In March the LCC Jazz Band participated in the Coyote Jazz Festival receiving straight Excellent Ratings. Sam Cross & Kolten Settje received Soloist Citations. We did not participate in the NECC Jazz Festival due to weather issues.
District Music Contest
District Music Contest was held April 19, in South Sioux City with the following instrumental entries: Concert Band - Jazz Band - Percussion Ensemble Sam Cross---alto saxophone solo Gabbie Kock---trumpet solo Derek Nelson---snare drum solo Christian Staples---trumpet solo Clarinet Quartet LCC Band Worker Award
It was necessary to create this award for a student who sets up chairs and music stands before class and puts them away after class every day he is at school. He also helped put the tarps down so band members could set the gym up. The LCC Band Worker Award goes to Christian Staples.
Class C All State Band
Class C All State Band members were: Alex Allison, Madyson Campbell, Jolynn Kinkaid and Nolan Nordby Junior High Band; Paul Allison, Sam Cross, Shawn Griffith, Preston Rose and Christian Staples Symphonic Band, Derek Nelson and Emma Sohler Wind Ensemble. For the second year in a row Derek was first chair batter percussion in the top band. Each student medaled at State Band.
Director’s Award
The Director’s Award is in recognition of outstanding musical performance, leadership, dedication, and cooperation that contribute to the excellence of the ensemble during the past school year. The Director’s Award is presented to Shawn Griffith.
John Philip Sousa Award
For 54 years, thousands of high schools have honored their top band students with the John Philip Sousa Award. The award recognizes outstanding dedication and superior musicianship, qualities that all directors seek to instill in all students. The award has become a nationwide symbol of excellence in musical achievement. The senior recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award is Gabriella Kock.
Louis Armstrong Award
The Louis Armstrong Award is the most prestigious Jazz Award offered. In recognition of outstanding achievement by a jazz instrumentalist, as demonstrated through superior musicianship, leadership, character, and, individual creativity the Louis Armstrong award is presented to Gabriella Kock.
