Peitz, Haberman and Schroeder earn First Team All Conference honors
HARTINGTON — A number of players from the area discovered this week that they had been honored as members of the Lewis and Clark Conference’s All-Conference basketball team.
Wynot senior Anthony Haberman, Randolph senior Justin Haselhorst, Wynot junior Charlie Schroeder all received first-team recognition for the Clark Division.
Wynot’s Garrett Lange and Peyton Wieseler, and Randolph’s Collyn Beal earned honorable mention.
Lewis Division recognition went to Hartington-Newcastle junior Jake Peitz and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge seniors Evan Haisch and Cael Hartung
Honorable mention went to Hartington-Newcastle’s Kobe Heitman.
Wynot’s return to the state tourney was keyed by the sucess of Haberman and Schroeder.
“Anthony is a very hard worker and loves to compete,” Wynot head coach Lee Heimes said. “He has an ability to get to the basket and score. He is a leader and wants to do his best. Charlie is a very smart basketball player. He is a tremendous rebounder and a very good shot blocker. He is a player who does a lot of things really well.
“Peyton is a very good leader who understands the game of basketball very well. He can do a variety of things for us. Garrett is a very good rebounder. He is our scorer inside and has come on strong at the end of the season.”
Haselhorst was the Cardinals do-everything player as one of the area’s top scorers.
“Justin was our point guard this year, so he was asked to handle the ball the majority of the time,” Randolph head coach Jim Hixson said. “He not only was asked to handle the ball he was also our leading scorer this year as well as one of our better defenders. His leadership will be missed.
“Collyn really came on at the end of the season. Collyn was our second leading scorer and rebounder. He will need to be one of our leaders next year.”
“Jake had a strong junior year, it was a nice honor for him to be recognized for the work he’s put into his game,” HNHS head coach Nick Haselhorst said. “Jake is a tough matchup defensively with his abilities to play in the post and out on the perimeter like a guard.”
The Wynot girls were spearheaded on the Clark first team by juniors Karley Heimes and Kendra Pinkelman while Wausa senior Morgan Kleinschmit joined them there.
Wynot’s Edyn Sudbeck received honorable mention.
“Kerley was our offensive leader in scoring and led our team in rebounds and blocks,” Wynot girls coach Steve Wieseler said. “She is a great kid who was our go-to on offense and was very versatile.
“Kendra led us on defense and generally, we put her on the best player on the other team and she was the front girl on our full court press who is usually the one who sets the tempo and tone.”
The Lady Wildcats Kayden Jueden was also honorable mention.
