Larry Seyl
OMAHA — Larry Dean Seyl, Omaha, died peacefully Dec. 4, 2022, just days after spending Thanksgiving, his favorite holiday, with his family. He was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha, with his Ford baseball cap resting beside him. Larry was born Dec. 7, 1938, on a farm northeast of Belden. The second of seven children born to Victor and Lucille Seyl, the family moved to Lake City, Iowa, in 1944, where Larry grew up. In 1957, the family returned to Nebraska and farmed northwest of Randolph. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1962, based in Iowa, Texas and Guam. He took skills learned in the Air Force as a linotype press operator to the Norfolk Daily News. Later he worked for Northwestern Bell, first climbing poles, and running lines, and then on to management.
He was a member of the Pioneers of America, an organization for Bell employees of which the major goals were to perpetuate the ideals and traditions of the industry. This alliance would influence how Larry worked on behalf of others.
Larry was preceded in death by first wife, Marlene; his second wife, Mary; daughter, Tamara Nelson; granddaughter, Pamela Nelson; parents, Victor and Lucille Seyl; and brother, Duane Seyl.
Larry is survived by children, Craig and Terri Seyl, Robin (Seyl) and Don Johnson, Dale and Laura Seyl, Daniel and Jessica Seyl, and Cory Seyl; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jerry Seyl, Ronnie Seyl, Carol Ann Asmussen, Linda Mueller and Judy Fuerhoff; nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
