Lady Hawks lose exhibition in close one
MADISON – On Tuesday, the Osmond-Randolph Lady Hawks traveled to Madison for a Jamboree basketball game against the Dragons to kick off the 2023-2024 season. The host Dragons got out to a fast start scoring seven straight points before the Hawks were able to answer, said Bradley Wright, head girls basketball coach. The Hawks finished the first quarter on a 6-2 scoring run to end the first quarter down 6 to 9. The second quarter saw the teams trading baskets back and forth. Osmond-Randolph had seven turnovers in the period as the Dragons were able to hold the lead going into halftime 16-14.
The second half was a tight contest as both teams managed to score 10 points in the third quarter, but Madison was able to outscore Osmond-Randolph 14-12 in the final period to take the win 40-36. Osmond-Randolph shot 18 of 30 on free throws for 60 percent. The Hawks were led in scoring by junior Sophie Gansebom who finished with nine points while shooting 7 of 8 from the charity stripe, followed by junior Keli Aschoff with eight, and senior Ella Scott with seven points. MHS: 9 - 7 - 10 - 14: 40 ORH: 6 - 8 - 10 - 12: 36 In JV action during halftime of the varsity game, the Lady Hawks came away with the victory for an 8-2 final score.
Leading the charge for the Hawks was Kaleigh Miller with six points. Piper Hoffman chipped in two. points to round out the scoring.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action this Thursday in Osmond against the St. Mary’s Cardinals.
JV girls will start the day off with two quarters of 4 vs 4 due to low St Mary’s numbers, Varsity action will follow the JV boys.
The R Club JV tournament will be Saturday December 2nd in Randolph where the Hawks will play LCC at 8:30 am in the PA gym.
