Lady Blue Devil volleyball team graduated a lot of talent this spring
WYNOT — Wynot graduated seven seniors from last year’s edition of the Lady Blue Devils which finished third in the Class D2 State Volleyball Championships in Lincoln.
“We lost seven seniors who were very valuable to the team last year,” said second-year Wynot head coach, Sydney Messersmith. “We will have a lot of new faces on the court.”
Not every face will be new for the Lady Blue Devils as Kenna Oligmueller, Sophia Geisen and Eliza Lange are holdovers from the team that went 27-7 in 2023.
Oligmueller and Geisen saw a lot of action last year and Lange was a vital part of the Wynot attack late in the fall.
Seniors Joslyn Hochstein and Addison Pinkelman should find the court this season along with juniors, Jaylin Geisen, Jordan Foxhoven and Haley Wieseler.
“We are still putting the pieces together, but I am excited to get the season started,” Messersmith said.
Wynot is set to open the 2024 campaign on Aug. 29 in a home match with Osmond.
Sept. 3 the Lady Blue Devils will hit the road to Boyd County before a home quadrangular with Bloomfield, Crofton and Hartington-Newcastle.
Home dates with Winside and Creighton follow, a trip to Bloomfield and home match with Lyons-Decatur Northeast get Wynot to the last week of September.
A triangular with Wakefield and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in Laurel is set for Sept. 26 ends the month.
Tri County Northeast comes to Wynot to open October, a trip to Homer and a tournament at Clarkson-Leigh is scheduled for Oct. 5.
A triangular with Cedar Catholic and Ponca is set for Oct. 10 in Ponca, a tournament at Wisner-Pilger on Oct. 12 and a triangular with Plainview and Randolph in Randolph will be played on Oct. 15.
The Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament opens on Oct. 19 and continues through Oct. 22 before a match in Wynot with Bancroft-Rosalie on Oct. 25.
Sub-districts begin Oct. 28, a district final will be played on Nov. 2 and state volleyball will be played Nov. 6 through Nov. 9.
“These girls want to win,” the coach said. “So I know they will do what they have to do to have a successful season.”
