Janet R. Twiford
LAUREL — Janet R. Twiford, 85, Laurel, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 12, at United Lutheran Church, Laurel.
Visitation will be Aug. 11, from 4-7 p.m., at the church.
Burial will be at Laurel City Cemetery.

Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling the arrangements. Janet Rae Haan was born Oct. 31, 1936, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Ray and Ida (Gerritsen) Haan. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1955. While attending high school, she worked at a local Dairy Queen. After graduating from high school, she worked at T.S. Martin before becoming a bookkeeper at Weatherwax Clothing Store in downtown Sioux City, Iowa. There she met her future husband, Gene Twiford, who had come in to buy a suit for a friend’s wedding. Gene and Jan were married April 15, 1961, at Mayflower Congregational Church, Sioux City, Iowa. They lived on a farm south of Laurel for 53 years, where they farmed and raised four children before moving to town in 2014.
Janet was a member of United Lutheran Church, Laurel, where she was active in the Women of the Church, a charter member of Sarah Circle, and served on the church council. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, in which she held several positions over 37 years and served as District 3 President of the Auxiliary.
The title she was most proud of was grandma and great-grandma, GG for short, to all of her grandkids, and some of her most cherished times were Grandma’s day with her granddaughters.
Those left to honor her memory include her children: Todd (Judy) Twiford, Sioux City, Iowa; Jill Olesen (Brian Eddie), Carroll; Gail (Jeff) Curry, Laurel; five wonderful grandchildren, Elizabeth Curry (Justin Janecek), Skyler (Allison) Curry, Mary Jo (Eric) Coleman, Michael (Caterina) Olesen, Laura (Wyatt) Westberg; four beautiful great-grandchildren, Theo and Willa Curry, and Eli and Oliver Coleman; sister, Joanie Peters, Thornton, Colo.; nephews, Mike (Karyn) Huwe, Washington state; Terry Huwe, San Francisco, Calif.; Jeff (Kathy) Peters, Hudson, Colo.; Jerry (Annette) Peters, Thornton, Colo.; and niece, Cindy (Luke) Neiberger, Hudson, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ida Haan; parents- in-law, Harold and Lillian Twiford; sister, Dorothy Huwe; brothers- in-law, Eddie Huwe and Vern Peters. She entered into rest with her loving husband, Gene, and daughter, Dana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department or the Laurel Vets Club.
