HARTINGTON — Janet A. Huss, 72, Hartington, died peacefully, surrounded by her family Sept. 7, 2018, at the Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House, Yankton, S.D., after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation and a Vigil service were Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Visitation continued Tuesday, one hour prior to services. Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 11 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington. Pallbearers were Aaron Petersen, Bill Christensen, Bob Hansen, Bill Huss, John Huss and Danny Huss. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Janet Arlene Huss was born June 10, 1946, in Laurel, to Axel and June (Ruge) Hansen. She grew up on the family farm east of Hartington. Janet attended District 47 Pleasant View Grade School and graduated from Hartington High School in 1964. After high school, she moved to Omaha and worked for Mutual of Omaha for several years before moving to Yankton, S.D., where she worked for a public accountant. Janet married Robert Huss Nov. 27, 1965, in Hartington, and they were blessed with two children. They lived on a farm southwest of town and Janet worked at the Bank of Hartington. After working at the bank for several years, she worked in the Treasurer’s office at the Cedar County Courthouse until her retirement. Janet’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She was a selfless, loving, and caring woman who always put family and others before herself. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw and word puzzles, baking, reading, and keeping her home neat and orderly. Janet also loved her popcorn, Smarties, and Butterfinger candy bars. Janet was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild. Janet is survived by her husband, Robert Huss, Hartington; daughter, Cindy Huss, Yankton, S.D.; son, Michael Huss, Hartington; grandson, Aaron Petersen (fiancé, Jessica, and her sons, Tate and Mason), Hartington; great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Petersen, Hartington; sister, Judy (Dave) VanHook, Tucson, Ariz.; brother, Larry (Micki) Hansen, South Sioux City; brother, Jim Hansen, Huntington, Texas; and many other cherished family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and June (Ruge) Hansen; and her father and mother in-law, Clarence and Viola (Rolfs) Huss. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
