Improvement projects continue at the Globe Chop House
HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday paved the way for a proposed new restaurant here to open this spring.
The Council approved a building permit for Kyle and Katelyn Lammers and the Globe Chop House. The new restaurant will be housed in the former Globe Clothing Store building on East Main Street in downtown Hartington.
The permit enables the couple to connect the restaraunt’s kitchen to the main Globe building. The kitchen is being built in a seperate adjoining building the Lammers also own, which is just east of the Globe. The two structures will be connected with a walkway at the northeast corner of the Globe.
The Lammers were approved for a liquor license for the new restaurant in February. They hope to be able to open the facility this spring.
The Council also gave its approval to three other building permits at Monday’s meeting.
They approved a permit for a garage and deck for Richard and Karen Newton for their home at 314 S. Robinson.
The Council also approved an addition to Bill Grutsch’s house at 601 E. Felber, and approved a permit for a prefabricated swimming pool at Steve Rokusek’s house at 112 W. Lemon St.
Also Monday, the Council approved a resolution to change the water rates and sewer rates. The action was needed because the city sales tax on water and sewer services will go up.
Voters approved the sales tax increase last November. It will go from one percent to one-and-a-half percent on April 1.
The Council also approved a new lease with Darin Pick for farm land owned by the city.
Council members learned a new payloader has arrived and is now being used. The equipment was purchased from Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company of Sioux City.
After the trade-in, the payloader cost the city $131,000. The Council is considering taking out a fiveyear, three percent loan to finance the machine.
Council members were also told a new filter system is being installed at the swimming pool.
All pool staff has also been hired for the upcoming season. Brianna Miller will be the new swimming pool manager.
Other repairs around the park are also being made in preparation for the summer.
Councilman Roman Sudbeck said a new floor was recently installed at the gazebo at Felber Park. The old floor was rotted out and had to be replaced.
Sudbeck said work has also been done at the Hartington Community Complex. Four loads of red rock have been hauled in and spread out in the parking lot at the complex.
New yellow cap has also been ordered to top the baseball fields at the complex.
Sudbeck said cracks on the all weather track itself have also been fixed.
The Council also learned that Economic Development Coordinator Miranda Becker is in the proccess of applying for a grant to construct a frisbee golf course at one of Hartington’s parks.
The next City Council meeting is slated for March 22, at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
