HNS FFA hosts District Dairy Contest
HARTINGTON — The Hartington- Newcastle FFA Chapter hosted District Dairy Judging Sept. 25, with 14 schools in attendance, including Battle Creek, Bloomfield, Crofton, Osmond, Lutheran High, Norfolk, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Hartington-Newcastle, Verdigre, Randolph, Plainview, Stanton, Summerland, Pierce, Wynot, Emerson-Hubbard, Allen, Creighton and Madison. There were 316 students judging cows on Wednesday, with 10 stations in total.
There were four judging classes, including two cow classes, a heifer class and a calf class; two question classes, one herd test, and one written test over basic knowledge of dairy.
After all the rotations were completed students ate lunch while waiting for the results. The Hartington- Newcastle FFA Chapter had a Senior Team, Junior Team and Alternate team competing.
The Senior Team Placed first. Competing on the Senior team were Breah Steffen (first individual) and Ava Noecker (fourth individual). Individuals earning ribbons were Ava Stewart, Maverick Heine and Graham Potts. Other members on the team included, Booker Hochstein, Matthew Loecker and Jackson Klug.
The Junior team placed fourth. Competing on the Junior team were Calley Stewart (fourth individual). Team members earning ribbons were Will Feilmeier, Gus Lammers, Gavin Klug, Gabe Reyes and Karissa Bruning. Other members of the team included Elsie Haahr and Henry Zimmerman.
Individuals earning ribbons on the alternate team were Jayden Lordemann, Ashton Wakely, Allison Huesers, Josh Pinkleman, Brayden Fisher and Kyson Lammers. Other team members included Kyptin Collier, Jacob Kruse, Alyk Zach, Wyatt Clark and Aiden Walter.
