Hartington to play for State baseball title
HARTINGTON — Hartington is no stranger when it comes to State titles.
Between Hartington-Newcastle Public School and Cedar Catholic, the town has state championship banners for boys and girls basketball, volleyball, golf, track, one-act play, and speech.
A team of Hartington-Newcastle, Cedar Catholic and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge athletes is trying to add another sport to the championship list.
The Hartington Post 4 American Legion Juniors advanced to the State title game of the American Legion State Junior baseball tournament with a 7-5 win over Pender at Felber Park Tuesday night.
The 19-4 Hartington team didn’t take the easy road to the State title game, either.
Post 4 lost a nailbiter in the tournament opener to Tecumseh to go directly into the consolation bracket.
Now that the local team has reached the state title game, they face another huge task — beating two-time defending state champion Malcolm.
Hartington takes on Malcolm at 5 p.m. Wednesday night at Felber Park.
