Hartington Hotel first opened in May, 1917
HARTINGTON — The Hartington Hotel was constructed in 1916 and 1917 on the site of the former Grand Hotel, which burned to the ground in December, 1915.
The new facility, which was owned by the North American Hotel Company, was built to be a community showpiece. The North American Hotel Company had quite a reputation for putting quality hotels up. They built the famous Blackstone Hotel in Omaha in 1915.
The local facility had its high points and low points over the years. By the 1990s, it was run down, but still operational until a February, 1995 fire shut it down.
It had been closed ever since.
Hartington veterinarians Ben and Erin Schroeder purchased the building and spent part of 2017 and most of 2018 bringing the facility back to its old glory.
It is now set to open this week.
