HARTINGTON — Geralda Rose “Gerry” McGregor, 84, Hartington, died Dec. 26, 2023, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D.
Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 30, at 2 p.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.
Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington.
Pallbearers were Dave Wubben, Kenny Eickhoff, Dennis Wubben, Larry Lammers, Lyle Lammers and Todd Thoene.
Honorary pallbearers were Gerry’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday, at church, 5-7 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Saturday, one hour prior to services.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Geralda Rose was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Fordyce, to Raymond Casper and Alma Theresa (Arens) Wubben. She grew up in the Fordyce area and attended elementary school there, and then attended Holy Trinity High School, Hartington. Gerry worked as a mother’s helper for many local families. She also went for six months to the Franciscan Convent in Madison, Wis. Gerry worked for a bakery in Yankton, S.D., for a while prior to marrying Edward Dean McGregor Oct. 4, 1960, in Fordyce. They raised eight children, Patti, Sue, Joan, Jim, Kathy, Nancy, Keith and Bill. Gerry eventually helped at the Holy Trinity school cafeteria, worked at the Bank of Hartington, and volunteered to help with the nursing home residents – getting them to Mass, meals and social functions. Gerry was devoted to the rosary and led the rosary at home with her family, at the nursing home, and at Mass for many years.
Gerry was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and held an hour of adoration for 20 years. She belonged to the Christian Mothers and the Holy Trinity Guild. She loved cooking, gardening, and canning. Gerry always had homemade cookies in the freezer. She was a former 4-H mom and attended lots of ballgames and functions for her children and grandchildren.
She loved to play cards and did sewing and embroidery work. Gerry was always diligent with helping others and always kept busy doing something for her family and friends. She will best be remembered as a humble servant.
Gerry is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dean; her eight children and spouses, Patti (Jim) Promes, Hartington; Sue (Scott) Driver, Minden; Joan (Todd) Greder, Sloan, Iowa; Jim McGregor, Hartington; Kathy Hochstein, Springfield, Ill.; Nancy (Rod) Raszler, Elkhorn; Keith (Mirna) McGregor, Long Beach, Calif.; and Bill (Becky) McGregor, Hartington; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Betty (Harold) Eickhoff, Hartington; Jean Marie Lammers, Hartington; Claudette (Doug) Sternhagen, Hartington; Chuck Wubben, Yankton, S.D.; three sistersin- law, Dianne Wubben,Yankton, S.D.; Coletta Wubben, Fordyce; Janice Wubben, Yankton, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Alma Wubben; three brothers, Cyril, Mark and Daniel Wubben; brothers-in-law, Tom Lammers and Dave Thoene; sister-in-law, Marla Wubben.
