NORFOLK —- Funeral services for Gaylon G. Burbach, 77, Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Sept. 4, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Norfolk. Fr. Gregory Carl will be officiating the service.
Interment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation and a vigil service were Sept. 3 at Stonacek Funeral Chapel, Norfolk.
Military rites were conducted by the American Legion Post 16, V.F.W. Post 1644, and United States Army Honor Guard.
Gaylon died Aug. 28, 2024, at the Josie Harper Hospice House, Omaha. Stonacek Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Gaylon was born July 22, 1947, to Edward and Irene (Huss) Burbach in Yankton, S.D. Gaylon was baptized and confirmed at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph. He attended and graduated from St. Frances de Chantal Catholic High School, Randolph, in 1966. After high school, he enlisted in the National Guard and served for six years, from Feb. 8, 1967, to Feb. 7, 1973. Gaylon married Caroline Long in Norfolk, July 22, 1983. Gaylon grew up in Randolph before moving to Norfolk. He worked in the grocery business before starting at Affiliated Foods. Gaylon was with Affiliated Foods for 25 years before he retired. In 2022, he moved to Fountain Point Memory Care, Norfolk.
Gaylon loved being “Papa” to his grandchildren, tinkering in the garage and yard, and collecting John Deere Tractors.
Gaylon was a member of Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s Parish, Norfolk.
Gaylon is survived by his children, Kurt and Angie Burbach, Omaha; Rev. Jeff and Kris Long, Evansville, Ind.; Joe and Naomi Long, Emporia, Kan.; and Greg Burbach, Evans, Colo.; grandchildren, Eli Burbach, Omaha; Justin and Nikaya Long, Evansville, IN, Matthew and Nitza Long of Evansville, IN, Tesslyn Long and Demetrius Carr, Indianapolis, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Eliza Long and Alva Long;,brothers, Cliff (Marlee) Burbach, Dennis (Sandy) Burbach, Keith (Barb) Burbach, all of Randolph, and Doug (Idonna) Burbach, Ceresco; sisters, Ilene Sutton, Gretna, and Diane (Mel) Reineke, Hastings; sister-in-law, Barb Burbach-Paulsen, Coleridge; and many nieces and nephews.
Gaylon is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Irene; wife, Caroline; and brother, Allen Burbach.
