Former Cedar County Attorney dies
HARTINGTON – Former Cedar County Attorney George Hirschbach died Sunday.
Hirschbach retired from business in the 1990s, but couldn't stay retired for long, as he then helped out at the Cedar County Attorney's office, before taking on the position full time when then County Attorney Ed Matney left to pursue other career options in 2002.
Hirschbach held the position as Cedar County Attorney until retiring from office at the end of 2017.
Hirschbach attended high school in South Sioux City. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska and received his law degree at the University of South Dakota.
After selling his trucking business in 1997, Hirschbach purchased land in Cedar County, approximately 12 miles east of Hartington. Shortly after constructing a home on the property, he began helping out at the County Attorney's office.
