Fair features Veterans' Night

HARTINGTON - The Remember the Fallen Wall will be making its second appearance at the Cedar County Fair in the Commercial Static building on Friday, July 20, 2018 to celebrate Veteran’s Night. The wall will be open to the public Friday through Sunday and will commemorate Nebraskan soldiers that have passed since 9/11. 

Although the fair hosted the wall last year, the way it arrives at the fair grounds will be a little different said Greg Heine, Cedar County Agricultural Society president.   

The wall was escorted by Legion Riders to the fair grounds from Omaha. Once the Legion Riders arrived in Hartington, they paraded through town and ended their journey at the fair grounds at around 3 p.m. 

According to Heine, the riders will be from Omaha, O’Neill, Columbus and Wayne. 

Once the memorial wall is settled, Jeff Greu, one of the Legion Riders, will be leading a program to discuss the importance of the wall and those who have fallen. 

Veteran’s Night will also include an aerial flyover. It was suposed to include an appearance and  speech from Gov. Pete Rickets. A Friday release from the Governor's office noted the Governor was not able to take in the Cedar County event, or an event he had scheduled for Saturday because of a death in the family. 

Country music star Scotty McCreery will then perform. In other words, it’s a big night for the Cedar County Fair and the veterans.
