Expos win fourth game of the season
WYNOT - The Wynot Expos snapped a 3-game losing steak with a 6-5 win over the Freeman Black Sox here July 7 to improve to 4-10 on the 2024 season. Earlier in the week, the Expos lost on the road to the Crofton Bluejays, 10-2 on July 3.
Wynot was cruising along with a 4-1 lead heading into the seventh inning but the Black Sox erupted for four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead to chase Wynot starting pitcher Landon Wieseler.
Wieseler was replaced by his brother, Jalen who righted the ship and closed out the win after the Expos’ offense produced two runs in the in the bottom of the frame to make the 6-5 final.
Peyton Wieseler opened the second with a double into center field before Jalen Wieseler reached on a Freeman error.
After a strikeout and a ground out, David Schenk doubled to center field chasing home the Wieseler brothers.
Wynot resumed the attack in the fifth with two outs.
Lee Heimes singled to right before Jackson Sudbeck hit a line drive up the middle to leave runners on first and third.
Landon Wieseler made it three singles in a row to score Heimes before Peyton Wieseler worked a walk..
Sudbeck eventually scored on a wild pitch and the lead grew to 4-1.
The Black Sox answered to take the seventh-inning lead before Wynot responded in the bottom to retake the lead and win the game.
In the game with the Bluejays, neither team scored until the third, but Crofton made up for the drought with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
The Bluejays added three in the sixth to put the game away.
Wynot got a run in the sixth on a Peyton Wieseler home run to right field then added a single run in the eighth by Heimes.
The Expos are set to return to action in the South Central South Dakota League July 11 on the road at Lesterville in a makeup date and a trip to Tabor, Sunday, July 14.
