Cyril Joseph “Cy” Promes
CROFTON — Cyril Joseph “Cy” Promes, 61, Crofton, died Jan. 8, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He is the husband of Mary Ann.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, with the Rev. Jim Keiter officiating.
Visitation and a vigil service were Tuesday, at church. Visitation will continue Wednesday, at church, one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton.
Burial will be at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Crofton.
Pallbearers will be Jake Promes (nephew), Brandon Fischer (nephew), Dusty Keiser (nephew), Jerry Lewis (brother-in-law), Jeff Carda (friend), and Dale Sudbeck (friend).
Honorary pallbearers will be his six children, Jeremy, Ross, Ben, Jason, Brian and Maria Promes.
Cyril “Cy” Joseph was born March 2, 1960, in Yankton, S.D., to Elmer Jerome and Sally (Feilmeier) Promes. Cyril attended grade school at East Catholic and graduated from Wynot High School in 1978. Cyril married Mary Ann Keiser Oct. 24, 1981, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce. After their marriage, Cy and Mary Ann lived in Norfolk where he worked at Goodyear. They then moved to Fordyce and Cy worked at Firestone in Yankton, S.D., while also helping Mary Ann with her draperies business until expanding to floor coverings, and worked side by side every day.
In 2005, Cy and Mary Ann purchased Mary Ann’s grandparents’ farm. Mary Ann’s mom was born and raised on this acreage, which Cy and Mary Ann then made into a beautiful place they call home (Promes Paradise).
Cy loved everything about their farm, making many improvements over the years. He had so many talents and hobbies, such as growing a beautiful garden every year, painting, leather work, cooking, as well as fishing and so much more. One of Cy’s favorite things to make was his famous shrimp soup. Most importantly he cherished his wife and spending time with family.
Cy was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Knights of Columbus. Cy is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann, Crofton; six chil
