Council accepts bid, approves subdivision plat
HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday accepted a bid for a major street improvement project and approved a plat for a new subdivision.
The Council accepted the low bid of $748,861 from A&R Construction of Plainview to reconstruct a portion of north Madison Avenue and for drainage and sewer work on the street.
In all, three bids were submitted on the project.
Councilman Roman Sudbeck said he was pleased with the low bid, which came in over $100,000 less than what the city had anticipated.
Council members were also pleased that they already had a good working relationship with A&R Construction, since this is the same company that worked on the Hartington downtown revitalization project several years ago.
The City Council has been looking at ways to fix Madison Avenue and improve the drainage on the street for several years, now.
Mayor Mark Becker said this is a project that is long overdue.
“This is much needed, it will be a big improvement,” Becker said.
The work is expected to begin June 1 and be completed in early November.
The Council also approved a replat of land right outside the northeast edge of the Hartington city limits.
The plat had already been approved by the Zoning Board at their Jan. 27 meeting.
The land is being developed into a housing subdivsion. A total of 16 lots will be developed for sale in the new subdivision.
Developers have had this plan in place for quite some time. They met with city officials several times over the past year about water and utilities at the subdivision.
The Council also agreed Monday to work on a new lease for city-owned farm land.
No changes from last year should be made in the lease, however, Council members told City Attorney Steve Pier. Pier will draw up the lease for the property.
Sudbeck told the Council the new bleachers at the Complex have been assembled by the HNS shop class.
The next Hartington City Council meeting is set for 7 p.m., March 8, at the Hartington City Hall.
