Cedar will face state’s top team in State Tny. opener

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans are entering the State Tournament on a hot streak.
Cedar has put together a four-game win streak — the second longest win streak of the season.
The Lady Trojans bounced back from an opening season loss to Crofton in December then strung together seven straight wins to produce their biggest win streak of the season.
They will need to be hot in order to win at this week’s State Tourney. Cedar enters the tourney as the eighth seed and will play top-seed Hastings St. Cecillia at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lincoln North Star High School.
St. Cecillia put together an impressive season.
After posting an undefeated regular season in volleyball, and advancing all the way to the state title game before tasting defeat, the Cedar athletes know what it takes to win in big games.
Cedar Catholic’s offense is being led this season by senior Anna Reifenrath, and juniors, Maddie Wieseler and Jada Cattau.
The Cedar girls haven’t been in the State Tourney since 2011, when they took home the third-place trophy.
The Lady Bluehawks have lost just two games this season, losing to Class B Elkhorn and Class C1 Bishop Neumann.
Hastings St. Cecilia has not lost since Jan. 27.
The winner between the Lady Trojans and the Lady Bluehawks will take on the winner of the Ravenna-North Platte St. Patrick’s game.
Ravenna, the fifth seed, and NPSP, the fourth seed, play in the game following Cedar’s at Lincoln North Star.
The semifinal round games will be played on Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, and the Class C2 State Championship game will be played at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at Pinnacle Bank Arena in the West Haymarket in downtown Lincoln.
