Cedar girls dominate to claim Wakefield Tny. title
WAKEFIELD - Ten straight sets.
Cedar Catholic volleyball won ten straight sets to win the Wakefield Invite which started on Thursday and continued on Saturday.
The Lady Trojans would beat Homer, BRLD, and Lutheran High Northeast to earn the top seed in their pool on Saturday. It would not be the last time Cedar would see LHNE though.
In the first round of the championship bracket, Big Red swept Laurel-Concord Coleridge — 25-9 25-12.
LHNE would be the only team to challenge the Lady Trojans during the tournament. In the third game of the Pool with Homer, BRLD, and LHNE, Cedar would defeat Lutheran-NE 25-23 25-22. The Championship match was just as close, with Cedar winning 27-25 25-17.
Once again, it was seniors Maddie Wieseler and Jada Cattau leading the way for Big Red. Individually, each led the team in kills in two of the matches. Both girls tied with seven kills apiece in the championship game against the Eagles.
The five wins boosted Cedar’s record to 11-2 on the season. The Lady Trojans had a short rest before facing Norfolk Catholic on Tuesday evening.
This week Cedar Catholic will travel to Stanton on Saturday for a one-day tournament, and will also travel to Pierce on Tuesday.
