Cedar defense helps Trojans stay unbeaten
DAVID CITY — The Cedar Catholic defense and a punishing offensive ground attack once again combined to seal a victory for the Trojans.
Cedar Catholic improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2017 with a 21-13 win over David City here Thursday night.
The Trojans started the 2017 campaign at 8-0, losing in the final regular season game of the year to another undefeated team — Ponca.
Easton Becker’s three touchdowns, including the clincher in the fourth quarter, accounted for the CCHS scoring as he ran for 111 yards on 28 carries.
Quarterback Tate Thoene added 89 yards on 17 carries and threw for 41 additional yards.
Cattau said that Becker’s second touchdown that came right before halftime and gave the Trojans a 14-13 lead was the boost they needed.
“We had some opportunities to put more points on the board throughout the game, but our own mishaps prevented us from doing so,” Cattau said. “I have to give our defense a lot of credit for their efforts in the second half. We gave up a lot of yards in the first half, but then they buckled down and only gave up about 30 total after halftime.”
The Cedar defense was led in the contest by the stellar play of Myles Hochstein and Kerby Hochstein, who both collected eight stops on the night.
