Cedar County voters set new record

HARTINGTON — A record number of Cedar County voters decided to cast ballots in this year's General Election.

Cedar County Clerk Dave Dowling said 72.5 percent of the county's 5,749 registered voters cast ballots for Tuesday's election.

That's a record for a mid-term election, he said.

In the 2018 midterm election, Cedar County had a 63 percent voter turnout. In 2014's mid-term, only 53 percent of the electorate decided to vote. Prior to this year's election, the old record of 72 percent, which was set in 1994.

Precinct 13-14, the rural area between Coleridge and Hartington, had the highest voter turnout in the county with 74.2 percent of voters there turning in ballots. Pleasant Valley had the next best voter turnout with 73.9 percent of voters casting ballots. The county's worst voter turnout was in the St. Helena area, where 66.3 percent of eligible voters decided to get involved in this year's election.
