Cedar advances to State title game at Memorial Stadium
BATTLE CREEK - Cedar Catholic won a defensive slugfest Friday with Battle Creek to earn a trip to the State championship game at Memorial Stadium.
The two teams traded punts throughout the first quarter, before Cedar finally put together a solid drive near the end of the first frame. The Trojans used a ground-munching rushing attack to stitch together an 11-play drive ending with a Braeden Reifenrath dive up the middle to put Cedar on the scoreboard just two plays into the second quarter. A nasty winter wind caught the extra point attempt, forcing the Trojans to settle for a 6-0 lead.
The staunch Cedar defense, which has shut down offenses all season long, then went to work pitching a shutout to seal the win.
Cedar will now play undefeated Norfolk Catholic at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 22 at Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
This will mark the fourth time Cedar Catholic has played in the state title game at Memorial Stadium. A ll three previos visits have resulted in a state runner-up trophy, however.
