Catherine Marie (Peitz) Wistrom

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Catherine Marie (Peitz) Winstrom, 69, Sioux Falls, S.D., died Feb. 3, 2018, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, after complications from shoulder surgery. Funeral services were Feb. 8 at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Volin, S.D. Cathy was born March 6, 1948, to Alphonse and Vera Peitz. She attended Holy Trinity Grade School and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School in 1966. She participated in many school activities. She belonged to West Star 4-H Club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and playing the piano. After high school, she attended Norfolk Beauty School, Northeast Tech and later Auctioneering school in Kansas City. She worked many restaurant and secretarial jobs into her 50s, when she was forced to quit because of diabetes and heart problems. Then she used her time helping others. She made blankets for children at the Children’s Inn. She made costumes for schools plays, and baked pies and cakes for classroom parties for her children and grandchildren. She helped the elderly and disabled. She taught Sunday School at First Lutheran of Sioux Falls, helping any child in need. Her greatest love was for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She never forgot their birthdays or holidays. She enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and road trips with her friend, Steve Zubko. She is survived by her six children, Angela and Joe Suing, St. Helena; Joe and Trudy Haverman, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Julie and Al Mitua, Harrisburg, S.D.; Danny Haverman and Tina Paulson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Cindy and Brandon Novak, Mission Hill, S.D.; David Haverman, Sioux Falls, S.D.; her friend Steve Zubko; two step children, Jon and Kelsey Zubko; step daughter, Lorena Zubko, Sioux Falls, S.D.; her sister, Joyce Pedersen, Norfolk; mother, Vera Peitz, Hartington; brother, Jim and Lori Peitz, Hartington; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her father, Alphonse, March 3, 1990; brother, Jerry Peitz, May 30, 2015; step grandson, Lincoln Hilt, April 10, 2015; and granddaughter, Hanna Haverman, Aug. 29, 2017.
