Blue Devils host top in District Bloomfield on Friday
WYNOT - The Blue Devils host the top team in the district this week when Bloomfield comes to town on Friday.
Wynot looks to bounce back from a 25-20 loss to Hartington-Newcastle, and a win can potentially keep playoff hopes alive.
“We will need to win at least one of our next two games,” said Wieseler. “We have to keep fighting.”
To win though, Wynot will need to stop a big, physical Bees team that is undefeated and rated by both the Omaha World-Herald and the Lincoln Journal Star.
“Bloomfield is very big and strong up front with good team speed,” said head coach Steve Wieseler. “We will have to win the battle in the trenches.”
The battle in the trenches will be a tough match. Bloomfield boasts a physical line that has bullied it’s way through the season. It is a large part of Bloomfield’s success in the running game.
Bloomfield has three players listed over 200 pounds. Senior Mitchell Mackeprang tops the charts at 5’10” 235 pounds, he is joined by sophomore Gabe Lauck at 6’2 205 pounds and Daniel Bruegman at 6’0” 214 pounds.
Bloomfield will have a little bit of work to do replacing running back Will Fehringer who suffered an injury against Randolph, but fullback Brantson Gieselman stepped in just fine against Randolph with a three touchdown performance.
Wieseler knows Bloomfield will not change much in the game plan though, having another player ready to fill the role.
“They will plug another kid into his spot and do what they do best,” said Wieseler.
