Blue Devils are surprised by Pender rally
Wynot — The Wynot Blue Devils suffered a setback on Monday night when they hosted the Pender Pendragons. The Pendragons had been struggling this year while the Blue Devils were coming off a successful holiday tournament at West Point over the Christmas break. Pender would hand the Blue Devils a 50-36 upset loss and earn their first win of the season.
Pender got an outstanding performance from their senior guard Dylan Vogt who drained five 3-pointers and went 7-11 from inside the arc to amass a game-high 19 points. Spencer Rabbass also hit double figures with 11 points and both Caleb Trimble and Jaxson Maise contributed nine points to the win.
Wynot was led by Charlie Schroeder with 12 points and nine boards. The opening quarter saw Wynot get four points each from Schroeder and Anthony Haberman. Pender was led by Dylan Vogt who rained a trio of 3-pointers to give the visitors the early 12-8 lead.
The second quarter was fairly even. Wynot got five points from Dylan Heine and four points from the low block area by Garrett Lange along with a bucket each from Trystan Heimes and Anthony Haberman.
Spencer Rabbass dumped in six points for Pender and Vogt hit his 4th trey of the night as the Pendragons maintain a 27-21 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw Schroeder go to work on the inside contributing six points to the Blue Devils’ cause. Pender, however, stayed hot from long range as Caleb Trimble, Jaxson Maise and Vogt all drained 3-pointers to push the Pendragons’ lead to 38-29.
In the fourth quarter the Blue Devils would try and rally from long range but it did not work. Wynot went 2-24 from three-point land for the game. Pender got six points from Caleb Trimble, four points from Dylan Vogt and trey by Spencer Rabbass as they pulled away for the 50-36 win.
