Blue Devil defense stops LCC Bears
WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils and the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears did battle on the hardwood Friday night in the final regular season game for both teams.
The game was a very physical affair with the Blue Devils coming out on top 45-36.
The big difference was the ability of the Blue Devils to handle the Bear press and they were able to hit 15-18 charity tosses while the Bears went 10-18 from the line for the game.
Wynot enters the post season with a 16-7 record while Laurel-ConcordColeridge goes in with a 14-10 record.
Wynot was led by the inside play of Garrett Lange and Trystan Heimes with 13 and 12 points respectively.
The Bears were paced by Cael Hartung with 13 points and Evan Haisch helped out with seven points
The two teams struggled on the offensive end to start the game with some sloppy play and numerous turnovers as the game was tied at 6-6 after one period.
In the second quarter LCC got a bucket each from Cael Hartung and Deagan Puppe. Wynot went on a scoring surge after the halfway mark of the period as they outscored the Bears 16-6 to lead 22-12 at halftime. Wynot’s uprising was led by Garrett Lange with five points, Charlie Schroeder with four points and Dylan Heine hit a three pointer.
The Bears would try and rally in the third quarter behind six points by Jake Rath and three more points by Deagan Puppe. Wynot got a pair of buckets in close by Trystan Heimes and three points by Anthony Haberman, but LCC had cut into the Blue Devil lead trailing 31-25 going into the final period.
In the fourth quarter the Bears got 5 points each from Cael Hartung and Evan Haisch. Wynot was able to hold off the Bears thanks to a bucket each from Trystan Heimes and Garrett Lange and the fact that as a team the Blue Devils went 10 for 10 from the free throw line down the stretch to earn the 45-36 win.
Wynot entered SubDistricts Tuesday at O’Neill St. Marys where they took on the Stuart Broncos in first round action.
