Blanche Backstrom
WAYNE — Blanche Backstrom, 96, Wayne, died Nov. 14, 2018, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.
Visitation was Tuesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Wayne.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Nov. 21, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Wayne, with Rev. Kristen Van Stee and Chaplain Deb Hammer officiating.
Pallbearers will be Travis Dunn, Larry Lueders, Adam Bentjen, Wade Backstrom, Warren Hanson and Lee Johnson.
Interment will be in Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hasemann Funeral Home, Wayne.
Blanche Louise Cecelia Backstrom was born May 7, 1922, at Laurel to Oscar and Elvira (Magnuson) Johnson. She attended school in Dixon County. Blanche married Lawrence Backstrom, Jan. 5, 1944, at the home of the bride’s parents, near Dixon. The couple farmed southwest of Wayne all of their married life, before moving to the Oaks Senior Living Community, Wayne, 2011. Blanche was a past member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Concord, and Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wayne, and was a current member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Wayne. She was a Sunday school teacher and belonged to the Ladies Aid.
Blanche is survived by her sons, Verdel (Virginia) Backstrom, Wayne, and Perry Backstrom, Wayne; five grandchildren, Kim (Larry) Lueders, Mike (Amy) Backstrom, Jennifer Van Horn, Jamie (Travis) Dunn, and Leslie Backstrom; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bernadine Backstrom, Wayne; nieces and nephews.
Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence, in 2012; son, Duane, in 2005; daughter-in-law, Lesa Backstrom, in 2013; great-grandson, Kyle Bentjen, in 2002; and sister, Vandelyn (W.E. “Bud”) Hanson, in 2017.
Memorials may be directed to the Backstrom family for later designation.
