Bishop Anthony M. Milone
OMAHA — Bishop Anthony M. Milone, former auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Omaha and bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, was surrounded by family and friends the past several days and during his final hours. He was 85.
Reception of the Body will be 3 p.m., May 23, at St. Cecilia Cathedral; with Office of the Dead, 7 p.m., at St. Cecilia Cathedral.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m., May 24, at St. Cecilia Cathedral.

In 1981, Bishop Milone was ordained auxiliary bishop by Pope John Paul II to assist Archbishop Daniel E. Sheehan in the Omaha Archdiocese. Five years later he was named bishop of the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, taking office on February 23, 1988. He resigned in 2006 because of poor health.
Bishop Milone returned to Omaha in 2007 and spent his retirement there. He lived at St. Bernadette Parish in Bellevue, where he had served as pastor from 1973 to 1988. Bishop Milone later moved to the St. John Vianney Residence, the archdiocese’s home for retired priests. While in retirement, he helped Archbishop George J. Lucas and Archbishop Elden F. Curtiss with confirmations.
“Bishop Milone gave me a warm welcome when I came to Omaha nine years ago,” Archbishop Lucas said. “I will miss him, and I join his many friends, his family and his former parishioners in thanking God for his long and faithful ministry.”
Bishop Milone, who has battled cancer and heart related issues, was born in Omaha Sept. 24, 1932. He grew up in St. Philomena Parish (now St. Frances Cabrini Parish), Omaha. He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Omaha. Following his graduation from Creighton Prep in 1950, he attended Conception College/Seminary in Missouri and the Gregorian University in Rome. He was ordained a priest Dec. 15, 1957, and served as assistant pastor at St. Mary Parish, Bellevue; St. Patrick, O’Neill and Our Lady of Lourdes, Omaha. He later was pastor at St. Anne Parish, Dixon, and St. Bernadette Parish, Bellevue.
Bishop Milone was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Louise Milone. sisters, Lena, Giuseppina, Giovannina Milone, Nancy Davis and Adeline Moran; brothers, Carl and Sam; and niece Lyssa Carnazzo.
He is survived by his brother, Jesse (Jeri) Milone; sister-in-law, Willa Milone; and many nieces and nephews.
