Arthur Francis Kathol

BOW VALLEY — Arthur Francis Kathol, 86, Bow Valley, died unexpectedly in Bow Valley May 21, 2018. Visitation and a Vigil service were May 24 at Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, Bow Valley, and resumed Friday at the church one hour prior to services. Mass of Christian Burial was May 25 at the Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church, with Rev Eric Olsen officiating. Burial was in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Todd Kathol, Bradley Kathol, Mark Kathol, Tomas Kathol, Kurtis Kathol, Jacob Mackey, Brian Hodges, Matthew Hodges and Spencer Carl. Honorary Pallbearers were his granddaughters, Audrey (Mark) Klingele, Karen Carl, Wendy Mackey, Jennifer Kathol, and Renee Carl. Arrangements were under the direction of Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Art was born in Bow Valley May 5, 1932, to John H. and Mary Wilhelmina (Wieseler) Kathol. He graduated from the eighth grade in May 1945 and began working with his father in the appliance business. Art married Maureen Sudbeck Oct. 26, 1954, in Bow Valley. He continued to work with his father and eventually became his partner, forming John and Art Kathol Appliance. In June 1969, it became Art Kathol Appliance. Art retired in 1992 but continued to help his son, Don, part-time until 2012. Art was an active member of the Holy Family (Sts. Peter and Paul) Catholic Church) and was a former council member. He was the chairman of the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery Committee for many years. Art was very active doing volunteer work for his community and church. He enjoyed riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and visiting with his friends. Most of all spending time with his family was very important. Art is survived by his wife, Maureen, Bow Valley; five children, Linda (David) Carl, Shawnee, Kan.; Lori (Charles) Mackey, Yankton, S.D.; Paula (Michael) Hodges, Lincoln; Donavin (Joyce) Kathol, Bow Valley; Julie (Scott) Childers, Lincoln; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Delores (Norman) Sudbeck, Hartington, and Mary Ann (Joseph) Stastny, Lennox, S.D. He was preceded in death by five children, Mary, Karl, Dale, Dean and John; and a sister, Christine Kruse Kaberna. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Sts. Peter and Paul Church.
