Area Wrestlers start Day One of Districts Strong
HARTINGTON - It is still early on the first day of District wrestling, and area grapplers have started strong.
Cedar Catholic took to the mat in Battle Creek as part of the District C-1 event.
So far, Kerby Hochstein, Turner Korth, Ethan Koch, and Eric Hoesing have all won in the quarterfinal round.
Morgan Koch, Nash Albers, and Carson Jones. Koch lost in the quarterfinals in a 6-4 decision to Oakland-Craig's Tom Maline, Albers was pinned by Malcolm's Ryan Zoucha, and Jones was pinned by Bishop Neumann's Josh Urlacher.
Conner Hochstein also suffered his first loss of the day in his first-round match.
Hoesing is 2-0 so far on the day, while Hochstein, Korth, and Ethan Koch are 1-0. Morgan Koch is 1-1 on the day.
Randolph is competing in Fremont as part of District D-3.
Alex Schmit and Colby Wathor are the only Cardinal wrestlers to have had a match yet today.
Schmit pinned his opponent in 12 seconds, while Wathor was pinned in just over three minutes.
Noah Scott and Brandon Bloomquist have not wrestled yet today.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is competing in District D-2 in Amberst today and tomorrow.
So far, Nolan Ohlrich and Levi Jackson are both 1-1, and both Brandon Meyer and Lenny Schumer are 0-1 on the day.
Ohlrich lost by major decision in the first round before pinning his next opponent in the first round of consolation matches.
Jackson also lost in the first round before earning a win in the first round of consolation.
Meyer was pinned in 23 seconds by Jared Shaw of North Central in the opening round and received a bye through the first round in consolation.
Lenny Schumer was pinned in the first round as well.
Fischer Carson and Ethan Williams have not wrestled yet for LCC.
The District event continues into tomorrow. The top four finishers at each weight class advance to the State Tournament next week in Omaha.
