Alice Marie Stevens

COLERIDGE — Alice Marie Stevens, 93, formerly of the Crofton and Constance area died May 10, 2022, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge.

Mass of Christian Burial was May 13 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Constance, with the Rev. Jim Keiter and Rev. Roger Schmidt officiating.

Burial was at St. Joseph’s cemetery, Constance.

Visitation was Thursday, at church, with a vigil service, and continued Friday one hour prior to services. Pallbearers were her grandsons,

Alice Marie was born June 3, 1928, in Yankton, S.D., to Henry J. and Frances (Backus) Billerbeck. She grew up in the Constance area and graduated from Crofton High School. Alice grew up on the farm and did hard labor, milking, raising a garden and doing other chores. She attended Mount Marty College, Yankton, and received her nursing degree. Alice worked as a registered nurse at the Osmond Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, and the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Alice also helped with home care and hospice care for many people in the area.

Alice was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, its ladies guild, parish council, Eucharistic Minister, Christian Mothers, St. Joseph School Board, Blue Ribbon member, and was a 4-H leader. Alice was an excellent seamstress and cook for her family. After her husband Dan died Jan. 20, 1996, at the age of 71, she and Eva Buschkamp began traveling to all 50 states and overseas to Rome, Greece, Venice and Hawaii to name a few. They also enjoyed an Alaskan cruise. Alice always loved to play cards with family and friends.

Alice is survived by her three sons and spouses, William (Carol) Stevens, Fordyce; Mike (Denise) Stevens, Crofton; Tom (Beth) Stevens, Fordyce; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Frances Billerbeck; husband, Dan; son, John; and 10 siblings.
