HARTINGTON — Twenty-seven property owners in Cedar County disagree with the 2014 valuation placed on their real estate and have filed protests.
June 30 was the last day for property valuation protests to be filed, accordingtoCedarCountyClerkDave Dowling.
Fifteen of the protests involve farm land, while 12 protests are on residential property.
“Protests on ag land are in the Hartington area and north,” Dowling said. “Residential protests came in from Obert, Coleridge and Hartington.”
CedarCountyCommissioners, acting as the Board of Equalization, will hold protest hearings July 22.
If the property owner is not satisfied withtheresponsefromtheCounty Board of Equalization a protest can be filed with TERC (Tax Equalization Review Commission).
“They would have 45 days to file with TERC,” Dowling said.
The number of protests filed this year did not surprise Cedar County Assessor Don Hoesing. July 9, 2014
COLERIDGE — L&L Farms, west of Coleridge, was the site of the Northbound & Down Truck & Tractor Pull Sunday afternoon.
Loren and Desiree Paulsen, members of the Northeast Nebraska Puller’s Association, Inc., hosted the pull, which they hope to turn into an annual event.
Sunday’s pull boasted 64 hooks in five classes. A majority of the pullers were members of the NNPAI, but there were also some local residents who got in on the fun.
Entrants came from all over, including Norfolk, Pierce, Dakota City, Bancroft, Hoskins, Clearwater, Stanton and Lesterville and Menno, S.D.
It was estimated there were approximately 250 people in the stands to watch the first tractor pull held in Coleridge since the 80s.
Participants included Ben Braun, Laurel, with his WD Allis in the 5500 V8 stock class.
